FOP Gene

Toronto Star story on a disease that turns your muscles, tendons, and connective tissue into bone. Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva is the name, and it might be one of the more horrific things I've heard of. Now they've found the one gene that has gone wrong in these poor people -- perhaps one day this will be of more than academic interest.

On a lighter note, when I read "FOP Gene" in your posting's title, I fully expected a genetic explanation of people obsessively concerned with their appearance and clothes.

That would have been less traumatic for everyone involved, I think. Alas, there is no gene for that.
